Responsible Gambling: Limits, Warning Signs and Where to Get Help

UPDATED: November 1, 2026

Slots are designed so that the operator wins over time. Every RTP below 100% means that, on average, you lose money the longer you play. Treat gambling as paid entertainment, never as a way to make money or win back losses. You must be at least 18 to gamble; the minimum age is 21 in many US states and 19 in most Canadian provinces.

Set limits before you start

  • Decide how much you can afford to lose and how long you will play, before the first spin.
  • Use the deposit, loss and session limits in your casino account. Licensed operators must offer them.
  • Do not gamble when you are stressed, upset, or have been drinking.
  • Never chase losses or borrow money to gamble.
  • Free demos (like the ones on NeonZeus) use virtual credits only; they are a way to understand a game, not a warm-up for winning.

Warning signs

  • Spending more money or time than you planned, again and again.
  • Hiding gambling from family or friends, or lying about it.
  • Gambling to escape problems, or feeling restless when you try to stop.
  • Borrowing, selling things, or missing bills because of gambling.

If any of these sound familiar, free and confidential help is available.

Self-exclusion and blocking

  • Self-exclusion: licensed operators let you close or pause your account. In the UK, GAMSTOP excludes you from all UK-licensed online operators at once. Many US states and Canadian provinces run their own self-exclusion lists.
  • Blocking software: tools such as Gamban and BetBlocker block gambling sites and apps on your devices.
  • Banking: many banks let you block gambling transactions on your card from their app.

Offshore operators that are not licensed where you live may not honour self-exclusion schemes or limits. If you are trying to stop, block them too.
